Pool

The structure that holds the mass of water. Marble plaster, Tile, Fibreglass, Painted and Vinyl are the different pool finishes your pool may have.

Skimmer / Weir

Water from the pool is drawn through the skimmer to the pump and motor via the suction line (blue line in diagram). The purpose of the skimmer is to skim debris floating on the pool water and trap it in the weir baskets. Automatic pool cleaners plug in at the weir and they clean the pool surface of dust and debris that have dropped to the floor of the pool. Ensure that the weir basket is cleaned out on a regular basis in order to ensure good filtration and circulation and the chemicals you add will work more effectively.

Pump & Motor

This is the heart of the pool system. It is responsible for drawing water from the swimming pool via the suction line (blue line on diagram) and then pumping the water back to the swimming pool via the return line (red line in diagram). Ensure that the pump basket is cleaned regularly.

Filter

The water is pumped through the filter in order to filter out the finer debris that passed through the baskets. Ensure that you backwash the pool filter at least once a week for 5 minutes and then rinse the filter for 1 minute to settle the sand in the filter. The purpose of Backwashing the filter is to remove dirt/debris that is captured by the filter during the filtration process.

Control Valve / Multiport Valve

The control valve is attached to the filter. The control valve has 6 different settings: filter, backwash, rinse, circulate/bypass, closed or drain water from your swimming pool. Remember to always switch the pump off before moving the control valve into a different setting and always turn the valve in the same direction to avoid excessive wear and tear.

Heater & Chlorinator

(Installed after the filter) If you have a heater or a chlorinator installed on the return line, the water will first pass through the heater and then through the chlorinator as it flows back to the swimming pool.

Return Inlet

Water re-enters the swimming pool through the return inlet. Swimming pools should have at least two return inlets depending on the size of the pool. It is advisable to direct the flow of water at a 30 ° to 45° angle into the pool to ensure good circulation throughout the pool.
